JOURNALISTIC WRITING – AUSTRALIAN BUSH FIRES

April 1st, 2009 by 6tsouthparade in Uncategorized · No Comments

6T have been writing some exciting newspaper stories about the recent Australian bush fires.

Although it was a tragedy and very sad for a lot of people, it was widely covered in the newspapers.

We had to experience journalistic writing and all its features in our literacy lessons, so we chose to read about the Australian bush fires and to write our own versions of what happened.  In ICT we wrote best copies and researched some suitable photographs to accompany our articles.  The results were very interesting and well-written.

WRITING IN 6T – BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY

March 25th, 2009 by 6tsouthparade in Uncategorized · No Comments

In 6T we have been learning about biography and autobiography, which features in the new Literacy Framework.  We decided to read the biography of Amy Johnson, who was a very famous aviator in

the 1920’s.  The children carried out their own research on the internet and found lots of information about Amy along with many interesting photographs.  They studied maps of her flight to Australia in 1930.

Later, they wrote autobiographies, imagining they were Amy Johnson.  Some of the writing was extremely good.  Later, we made a display of all the children’s work.

Museum Visit

October 24th, 2008 by 6tsouthparade in Uncategorized · No Comments

In September Year 6 visited The Collection in Lincoln.  The children travelled to Lincoln by coach and arrived in good time at about 10.30 a.m.

We went to view the Greek Collection, which was wonderful.

Later, we were able to go to the workshops organised by the Museum.

We were able to make clay tablets, shields and headbands in the Greek style.   Everyone agreed, it was a wonderful day and we learned a great deal about  Ancient Greece.

This term, we started our Science investigations off with a bang.  We visited the school nature garden to find as many wild creatures as we could and to investigate the type of local habitat in which they could be found.

In one small area, we found lots of wild creatures.  We found frogs, toads,

spiders, worms and lots of other insects.
